Welcome to the exciting FOODFORFRIENDSYEAH calendar competition! We’re giving all readers the chance to get a recipe in our new calendar, which will be printed in time for Christmas 2010.
The calendar will feature 12 seasonal recipes and photos created and chosen by you. Winners will have the glory of having one of their recipes printed for all to see, plus we’ll give them their very own copy.
How does it work?
At the beginning of every month you’ll be set a recipe challenge. You just need to create a recipe and submit it via the menu at the top of the page.
IAll recipes will be published on the blog and visitors will be asked to vote for the best. When voting is closed the winning recipe will feature on the calendar for that month.
What if my recipe isn’t chosen?
Don’t panic! Once we have a winning recipe we’ll need a lovely photo to go with it! Follow the recipe, take a delicious photo and send it in. The best photos will be featured in the calendar and winning photographers get a copy of the calendar for their efforts.
Questions?
If you have any questions then either get in touch or leave a comment at the bottom of this page.
Let’s get started!
Scroll down to find the first challenge. You can enter as many recipes as you like. Be sure to tell your friends about the competition – we’d like the best recipes and as many voters as possible. Good luck!
January (Voting now open)
January is the month of frugality – everyone is trying to recover from their Christmas excesses, but at the same time there is some amazing produce at its freshest. This is not the time to eat salad!
Think blood oranges, kale, pears, Seville oranges, apples, beetroot, clementines, leeks, cauliflower, celeriac, game (partridge, guinea fowl, venison…), Jerusalem artichoke, Hake, Halibut, pomegranate, lemon sole, clams, mussels, shallots, walnuts and kiwi fruits.
Think of all the amazing recipes you could create with one, two or even three of the above!
Cook it, write down the recipe and send it in. You never know, it might end up as January’s recipe on the FOODFORFRIENDSYEAH 2011 calendar!
Voting will start as soon as we post the first entry. It’ll end at midnight January 31st. Good luck!
February
We’re keeping the challenge seasonal this month, but also want to see some of your delicious warming desserts.
Think leeks, cauliflower, Jerusalem artichokes, kale, cabbage, parsnips, mussels, oysters, Guinea fowl and venison. Anything goes for the desserts, but there will be extra points for using rhubarb or Seville oranges.
All you need to do is create a recipe using one or more of the above. Send it in and you could win February’s challenge. Good luck!

This sounds like a great idea. I have a couple of questions. Is this open to anyone anywhere or is it for UK residents only? Also, what are you going to do with the calendars other than award them as prizes? Might you be able to sell them?
Yes it’s open to anyone who reads this blog!
Calendars will be available for to pre-order at a reduced cost (maybe we’ll limit this to people who’ve submitted a recipe, even if it’s not a winner) then they’ll be available at full cost.
If someone outside of the UK would like one they may have to pay a little extra for delivery. We’re going to try and keep costs as low as possible, but print a beautiful full colour calendar that you’d be happy to hang up and use!
Brilliant idea! I’m in.
