The Kraken
Nobody is more excited than me that the illustrations from old pirate maps and drawings from Victorian explorers seem to be all the rage when it comes to products and product design at the moment. We were lucky enough to be sent a bottle of this fantastic looking spirit, Kraken Rum, to try and wanted to tell you all about it.
Looking like something that only the most debauched and darstedly pirate crew would drink, the rum is named after the island-sized mythical sea beast and is a spiced Caribbean rum with exotic overtones of cinnamon, ginger and clove. They suggest drinking it with ice – we tried it but are to lily-livered for it, prefering it with Coca-Cola or their suggestion, poured over ice then topped up with ginger beer. As a guide, it’s not quite as rich and treacly as Jack Daniels, not as sweet as Sailor Jerry’s, but rock’n'roll enough to hold its own amid either brand. It’s a beautiful bottle, and would make a gorgeous present.
You can buy The Kraken at Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and other leading suppliers, priced £22.99 a bottle.
