Favourite Food Day

So I’m writing this on Father’s Day when Matt has come up with a genius idea. How best to celebrate a special day if you’re a foodie – a birthday, anniversary, exam celebration or whatever – than to have a favourite food day? On this day there are no rules – you can eat whatever you want for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and in our case, make whatever you want, and get your friends to eat your fave food too.
One thing we’ve discovered since becoming parents is that we have far less times to do that kind of joyful cooking where you spend a whole afternoon creating in the kitchen and use all the pans and make a collossal mess. We’re more used to clearing up after the typhoon-style mess of a toddler than making it ourselves. So having the opportunity to do that is a real pleasure (and rarely feels like we’re slaving away on a hot stove, like it used to).
So today Matt has gone for it in a big way. He’s done them cooking himself and has created his own special feast menu:
Breakfast: Pork Pie
Lunch: Eggs Benedict with a latte
Snack: Tex-mex dips with crisps
Dinner: Chicken and cashew nut stir fry (from Ching He-Huang’s Chinese Food Made Easy book, which is really great)
What would you make if you could design your own menu for the day? I’m pretty sure mine would involve more sweet treats, and probably chilli nachos (healthy food is banned for the day, too, just for the occasion). Let us know on Facebook!
