Venison Stew with Apricots and Juniper

Venison Stew With Apricots and Juniper

It’s been a while since I’ve had time to update the blog, so today I’m back with a foody review of something a little bit different! Some time ago the folks over at Look What We Found sent me a package of Venison Stew with Apricots and Juniper, that claims to be “As Good As Homemade”. It was the depths of winter when everywhere seemed to be covered in snow, so a hearty stew looked like the perfect treat for a quick dinner.

What was delivered was essentially a posh ready meal, that you don’t even need to refrigerate, but store in a cool dry place. The photo on the front featured generously large chunks of venison and what looked like a thick tasty sauce. Giving the packet a little squeeze though, I couldn’t feel any large chunks of meat!

After heating on the hob I tucked in and was surprised at how rich and meaty the sauce was, with a definite hint of red wine, juniper berries and apricots. The chunks of meat were smaller than I would have liked, but still tender, rich and delicious.

Looking at the list of ingredients, there’s nothing artificial added, and that shows in how it tastes. The meal I tried costs £3.99 and is available to order, along with many other meals on the Look What We Found website. Delivery costs £4.95 for anything under £50, £2.95 for over £50 and free if you order over £100 of goods.

I was pretty impressed with the quality of the Venison Stew with Apricots and Juniper, but it’s not something I would order again, as I really do enjoy cooking at home.

However, for someone who is unable to cook, or who doesn’t have the time, this is an option that offers well sourced ingredients, and a great deal of choice. Just make sure you order a lot at a time to cut down on the pricey delivery costs!
